Gaggia Classic Up with PID
As a first time espresso machine user, I did a fair bit of research before buying. I decided to try for a mid range entry as I did not want to deal with modding an entry level machine or deal with temperature surfing etc. I am a black drinker so dual boiler was not important to me. I very much like the PID digital interface and find it easy to use and set. Given my progress through the learning curve, I am happy with the double shots which are my standard. One area of disappointment is the tightness of the portafilter in the head. When cold, it moves into the 6 o’clock position with a pretty firm effort. Once preheated, removing and reinstalling the portafilter becomes a wrestling match to the point that the machine shifts out of position on the counter, and the handle will only get to a 7 o’clock position with maximum effort and a wrap around grip on top of the machine which seriously detracts from the user experience. I ordered a VST basket hoping for improvement, but things remain the same. I have varied and decreased the load down to 17 and 16 grams which doesn’t change anything. Debating whether to take more steps…. Ordering experience was excellent. Complimentary Cream Wave beans were likewise excellent.

Nice Machine and glad I purchassed it.
Machine arrived very quickly and as expected. Took a little while to get accustomed to the electronic controls, had a Regular Classic for years. Make great coffee, and satisfied with the purchase.

Impressive
Honestly impressed by its quick heat up and ability to handle light roasts with ease straight out of the box. A very welcome and substantial improvement over my Casabrews pro lol.
