Great Jig, one major problem

I love this jig, it works better than any of my other sharpening jigs and it’s just the bees knees for chisels and most standard (and not standard) plane blades. The biggest issue with the jig is that it’s not made for people who have bevel up planes. I cannot use it to sharpen six of my plane blades because of this. No angles above 30 degrees means that my 38 and 50 degree bevel up plane blades need to be done free hand or on my Veritas sharpening jig. So if anyone is like me and had bevel up planes they love to use, you’re probably not well served by this jig for most of your plane blades, unfortunately.

well built

The roller gummed up and stopped rolling reliably. Disassembled, cleaned the gunk out, oiled and reassembled. Works great again. Was impressed by the design and manufacturing as I was taking apart.

Initial Impressions

My initial feedback after sharpening an iron for my Stanley No. 45: - Setup getting the blade clamped into position is a bit fussy, but found that by holding the guide sort of sideways with my fingers straddling the clamp, and holding the blade against the stops from both sides, it makes clamping the blade in place pretty easy. - The thickness of the blade I sharpened was 1/8", and I found that the ends of the thumbscrews protruded below the roller, so ended up honing a bit of a bevel on the ends of the screws before I realized what was happening. I solved the problem by putting several washers under the heads of the thumbscrews to reduce their protrusion on the bottom of the guide. - The honed edge of my blade is dead square, so very happy about that. Overall, works as advertised.
