The Missing Link in my Coffee Chain

This machine produces ground coffee as close to perfection as I could ever hope to experience. Everything tastes better, from the everyday cups of coffee from our Technivorm Moccamaster to the exquisite espresso/cappuccino issued by our Bezzera BZ13 DE Espresso Machine from Whole Latte Love. The coffee makers were pretty good before; with the Varia they have stepped up the quality of their output. Most important of all, the grinds are consistent enough for me to duplicate the flavor each time.

My palate has been recalibrated

After seven years of daily use with my Breville Barista Express (BES870BSXL), I thought I had my espresso dialed in pretty well. I was genuinely happy with the taste and consistency, and it became part of my routine that I didn’t question much—until I introduced the Varia VS6 grinder into my setup. The difference was immediate and honestly surprising. The VS6 completely transformed my espresso experience. What I used to consider “great” now feels like just the beginning. With this grinder, flavors are more defined, more layered, and more expressive. Notes that were previously muted or blended together suddenly stand out with clarity—sweetness is cleaner, acidity is more vibrant, and the overall balance is noticeably improved. The grind consistency is on another level. Dialing in shots feels more precise and repeatable, which makes the entire process more enjoyable and less of a guessing game. It’s clear that the VS6 is built with serious attention to detail, both in performance and design. What impressed me most is how it expanded my perception of espresso. It didn’t just improve what I was already making—it revealed what I was missing. It feels like my palate has been recalibrated, opening up a whole new world of flavors that I didn’t realize my beans were capable of delivering. If you’ve been relying on a built-in grinder like I did and feel satisfied, the Varia VS6 might completely change your perspective. It certainly did for me.

Good…not great. Way too big for what it does. Way more static than other single-dose grinders I have, even with RDT. Changing the burrs was way too fiddly and the conical burrs I got almost didn’t fit—the tolerances were way too tight. Finally, the adjustment turns way too easily—it’s super easy for someone to bump it and change your grind setting and as a result I have to check every single time.
