Some beautiful tone for the magnet obsessed.
I'm big fan of the warmer, more vintage sounding Alnicos 2, 3, and 4. I'm less a fan of A5 as I feel it's too bright and too even in its response. I really don't care for ceramic magnets for the same reasons multiplied. I felt the need to check out A8 more out of completeness than anything. My main baritone had two Generators on it as it needed the extra brightness,. The Generators are very nice, but i wanted a less modern sound. So I swapped the bridge out for an Octane. I was expecting a Jumped up A5, it is not. It is very nice. It does not have the bright harshness of A5, it does have loads of character. It has an almost vintage tone. It sounds more like 2 or 3 than 5. It's perfect in the baritone, I'll be adding an octane to its neck. A8 is awesome. I can't wait to see it in a set of p-90's or vintage voiced humbuckers.

Great Bridge Pickup!
I have several Tonerider pickups and I think this one is my favorite as a bridge pickup. I like a lot a combo with a hot bridge pickup with coil split and a P90 for the neck. Alnico 8 was a new experience for me, I would think it was for Metal only but no, it’s great for all the music I play, rock, jazz, funk, soul, whatever. One great thing is what the middle position between Octane and a P90 becomes very useful.

Truly excellent pickup for rock & metal
I wanted a new high-output pickup for a project, but I’ve had some bad experiences with some of the cheaper ceramic pickups in the past, so I went for the Octane rather than the Firepower. I absolutely love it, I’m very happy with my choice! I use quite a lot of gain and spend a lot of time in Drop C - the Octane has got plenty of punch, but it’s not shrill at all, and the bass is nicely controlled too. String clarity for chords is excellent, even at frankly silly levels of gain. All in all, this is shaping up to be one of my favourite pickups! Will definitely be coming back to Tonerider the next time I have a requirement :)
