Truly excellent pickup for rock & metal
I wanted a new high-output pickup for a project, but I’ve had some bad experiences with some of the cheaper ceramic pickups in the past, so I went for the Octane rather than the Firepower. I absolutely love it, I’m very happy with my choice! I use quite a lot of gain and spend a lot of time in Drop C - the Octane has got plenty of punch, but it’s not shrill at all, and the bass is nicely controlled too. String clarity for chords is excellent, even at frankly silly levels of gain. All in all, this is shaping up to be one of my favourite pickups! Will definitely be coming back to Tonerider the next time I have a requirement :)

My new favorite pickup
I have been hotrodding guitars for 4 decades. I own almost every Dimarzio pickup ever made. I love Dimarzio for hearing every single sound a nuance of playing. However, the Alternative 8, and a few other hot offerings from Duncan punches your chest and sounds great in any guitar. I tried the Octane from Tone Rider and called a friend who makes custom guitars to tell him my review. Before I could get it out, he said that he just tried his first ToneRider and can't stop talking about it. I was looking for a good enough pickup at the price my other pickups cost 5 years ago. This isn't just a budget pickup. I will put this along side my best sounding pickups in my studio. In fact, I liked it so much, I just purchased another for my custom Lynch guitar. Power, clarity and personality. I made a YouTube video of the ToneRider -vs- the Duncan Black Metal. The ToneRider Octane won the blind test.

Excellent product
Look , these pickups are a major upgrade on my baritone guitar, these are handling the low G tuning with each. Far tighter and better definition on my chugs. The clean tone is absolutely excellent as well.
