Steelcase 462 Leap Chair Premium Heavy Duty Replacement Gas Cylinder

Easy to install. Functions great. PRO TIP: Crandall’s helpful videos don’t mention it, but have penetrating oil (WD-40) on hand when removing the old cylinder. Spent a couple hours trying to remove the old cylinder with a comically large 24” pipe wrench and it wouldn’t budge. Two squirts of WD-40 and 5 minutes, came right off.

Good part, difficult procedure

I'm very happy with the cylinder itself - the old one was leaky, tended to stick, and the bottom retaining clip was starting to come loose. The new one has solved all these problems and feels high quality - my only caveat would be the difficulty of the removal process for the old cylinder. The pipe wrench method suggested in the videos simply did not work - it was just too stuck. I ordered a cylinder removal tool off Amazon and that worked MUCH better - I think this kind of tool would be a great addition to Crandall's product lineup. It has the added benefit of not scoring the metal if you intend to reuse the old cylinder. Still giving five stars since it's not related to the quality of the replacement cylinder itself but I felt it worth mentioning.

My old steelcase is back to as good as new!

It took the powers of a 24 inch pipe wrench, a mallet, and a few pieces of sandpaper to get the old cylinder off of my decade old Leap v1 one. But the new cylinder slipped right in and now it’s working better than ever! Awesome
