Purchased with a view to fair weather expedition camping out of my kayak and occasional mountain wild camps. Super lightweight, lots of well thought out features and perfect for my needs.

A capable three season solo tent

I have recently received my Vern 1 3S but have only had the opportunity to pitch it twice in my garden and once in the hills where the weather was fine with winds gusting to 20 miles per hour. So my review is based on this. I have awarded 4 stars opposed to 5 as my experience has highlighted a few issues. These are summarised in the pros and cons below. Pros: ▪️The tent handled the 20 mph wind gusts with ease and only required the use of the guy lines at the windward side. ▪️The fly and the inner provided ample room for me and my gear. The porch was large enough to store gear and cook safely. Also the tie backs for the doors worked well. ▪️I experience no condensation despite there being low cloud most of the night. ▪️I found the tent easy to pack into my 50 l backpack and packing up was straight forward. Cons: ▪️The main issue that I had was in pitching the tent in the 20 mph gusts. This related to the insertion of the blue pole into the pole sleeve. The top end of the pole sleeve is made from a lighter material than the foot and when inserting the pole it punctured the lighter material due to the tension of the fly. As a result I had to make a field repair to the poles sleeve. This problem might be alleviated if the pole sleeve was shortened and made entirely of the heavier duty material. ▪️As identified by others the end vents of the tent do not have an way of closing them off in draughty conditions and there is no way to access the outer vent from inside the tent. However, I have mitigated these issues by attaching the external vent hook to the foot of the fly opposed to the guy line, thus closing the vent. Unfortunately you have to leave the tent to do this. The ventilation issue could be improved with the inclusion of a flap to go over the inner mesh vent. Ideally the inclusion of a zip to the inner vent would allow access to the outer vent. Base on my experience of the tent so far I am happy with it but will need to see how it performs in wind driven rain.
