These were as light and strong as I could have hoped for at a reasonable price. I recently used them on an 8-day sea-kayaking trip on Lake Powell and they worked well in both sand and harder soil. I had no problems with them bending but, like any lightweight stakes, I wouldn't hammer them very hard into mixed soil and big rocks.
