Terrific fun, enjoying the challenge!
I have gotten and played many ocarinas over the years, but didn’t really have any larger, low-pitched ones. Finally got this one, and it is impressive! It’s definitely the grand-daddy of the ocarina world, and carries almost like a football. I am slowly building up the breath stamina to play it for more extended periods of time, because each note is very air-greedy, which makes perfect sense. The lowest tones are very round and solid, though I am a little disappointed in the middle and higher notes since they get a little wheezy and fragile. The padded case that came with it is very much appreciated for ease of safe storage...though part of me wants to get some kind of display stand so everyone can see this behemoth! The polishing cloth is very useful, but the promised metal cleaning rod was not included as written in the description. I cannot wait to get more proficient on it so that I can bring it to the next local music jam session, haha! It is fairly heavy for me, so for now I play it curled up on a soft comfy couch so that I won’t drop it. This is my fourth or fifth Songbird ocarina, and I am already eyeing my next one. Very happy customer, thank you.

You can feel the contrabass resonate!
This contrabass is the best out on the market. If you want an instrument that resonates and supports your ensemble, this is the contrabass for you. It has a very full sound especially on low C.This ocarina is very well in tune. I generally found it to have a low breath curve and easy to adjust to from other ocarinas. I literally feel the resonant vibration from this ocarina. You can’t go wrong with purchasing this contrabass ocarina!!

dark, moody and amazing
This has quickly become my favorite ocarina- mellow; mysterious, but still agile; it speaks very easily and has an amazing timbre. the only caveat is that the tonal center is harder to control (bigger resonant range; harder to keep centered) but I think that’s more a factor of my inexperience with this size! It’s easy to slip off your fingerings and leak air as well. just takes some getting used to!
