X-Mid Pro 2

Working great so far

I took it on a 4 day trip in the Sierras and all went well. I'm 6'3" and really appreciate the length inside. I did get a lot of condensation the morning after we had an afternoon of rain..but I expected that so not an issue. I do have a couple questions: should I angle the hiking poles inward so I can leave the door open in light rain? Seems like there isn't much of an overhang to stop light rain from coming inside.. Also do you have a longer tent bag? I'm guessing the one I got is shorter to fit inside a pack, but I strap mine to the bottom outside of my Exos 58 and it is too short to allow that so I had to use an old tent bag.. Also the stakes were out of stock when I ordered my tent so I skipped getting them to avoid any delays in getting the tent...can I still order them for the $10 separately? If you got this far thanks for reading all this rambling and I really had a great experience with the tent on this first trip.. I did a short section of the AT in Virginia earlier in the year (with my old tent) and Durston tents were by far the most popular tent I saw..

Single handed happiness

Hi, My experience with Durston was excellent since the very beginning. I struggle with my right hand and was completely unsure if I will ever hike and enjoy sleeping outside in uncomfortable conditions ever again. I used basic army tarp since my childhood and early adulthood. Then an accident happened. I asked on the Durston's web if it's even possible to set the tent up, and got incredibly kind response very quickly even though I live in a different continent! So I was pretty excited that those guys mean well for hikers and I decided that I will order the X mid pro 2. I added the additional poles, groundsheet and in few days, I had the tent home. So the only obstacle was fear of building it. I decided to try it head on and I went to the mountains. It was raining, but I really succeeded setting the tent up, with only one hand. Ha! The tent endured wind and rain incredibly well. So I would really like to thank everyone who had the hard working hand in making my dream of returning to The Hike world back! I had so many doubts but I am glad that I dived quite blindly and hit pure gold! Thank you

Simply the best

I get excited every time I set up this tent. I am reminded of the same youthful excitement I had in the 1980s when I switched from a canvas pup tent to my first dome tent. The Durston design and material is so smart and simplistic. It breathes really well around the floor well and through the two fly vents. It is impermeable to precipitation. The majority of the time you don't have to bother with guy lines, so there are zero trip hazards. The setup is intuitive, symmetrical, and super-fast (four corner stakes, two trekking poles, two vestibule stakes). Setup process is rainproof, so one person can erect the tent without getting any precipitation inside the tent floor well. The Dyneema floor allows me to avoid the weight of a separate ground cloth. I have the optional Dyneema and the optional 8 tent stakes. This is our tent for both solo and two-person outings. I don't know why anyone would go with the other ultralight tent shapes that are just like my childhood canvas pup tent. The Durston broke the mold on design - it is a leap forward and makes me so happy!
