\\I've thought long and hard about whether or not to add the Harumi Slicing Knife to my collection. It just didn't seem as exotic or sexy as the other knives I've gotten so far. I kept coming back to it and thinking something does not seem right. It was the scale of the knife size the didn't make sense. I was intrigued by description of the knife's function, but not confident what it would look like in real life. Finally, it came down to one of the last few knives I hadn't purchased, and it was in the price range I felt comfortable with, so I took the plunge. It turned out it was the knife I was hoping it would be. The picture of the knife being held by a person is totally off scale. The person holding the knife makes it look huge and it didn't line up with the physical description in write up. So to help you get a more realistic feel of what the knife will look like and feel like, I'm including 2 photos to help you judge. My wife who does the bulk of cooking here at home was blown away how thin and clean it sliced through tomatoes. Slicing Knife is the appropriate description of what this knife does best. This morning I used it to slice up some brabant potatoes. It did a great job of cutting through potato thanks to the sharp edge and heft of the blade. It has the heaviest feel of all the knives I have of relative size. The handle is an old fashion shape, but the width of it is noticeably wider than you would find on a consumer grade knife. It feels right at home in my hand. I'm glad I finally added the Harumi Slicing knife to my Wasabi Collection. Note: the blade finish is significantly different from the one on the product page.

This is a Man's knife! It's a professional grade piece of craftsmanship. It's well balanced, the steel is of the highest quality. I do a lot of bone in pork shanks for pulled pork, and I have Never used a better knife for this purpose! I'm telling you that nothing else even comes close. I can do a whole shank without having to re-sharpen, because of the edge retension due to the high quality of the steel. This is the one knife that you will have to pry it out of my cold dead hand,I will never give it up.

Love this knife, but DO have to be aware of the pointy end. I've got myself several times with it and it is uber sharp.
