The edge from this stone on wven my thicker sanjo knives has them cytting like lasers. Bright core steel but tge kasumi finish is somewhat lacking. Bought it for the edge and in that it excels. This bring my first stove it was a grear doorway. Next up something for my kasumi finishes!

Oouchi is a fair stone with good feedback that leaves a nice polish and good edge, particularly for carbon. While it leaves an okay kasumi finish I might look elsewhere if that is your intended purpose for the stone. I bought this and Hideriyama at the same time and they each have their pros and cons. Hideriyama is softer, muddier and has better feedback. It also leaves a better Kasumi finish. However, oouchi is a faster cutter, leaves better bite and a cleaner edge. It really is a toss up, for me, and dependent on the task at hand as to which stone I choose. To me, this stone works best for working with narrow bevel knives or as a pre-finisher on single bevel knives. However, it is a good all around stone if you should choose it for that. As always, the experience shopping at JKI was top notch.

Really nice polish. Doesnt take too long to work up some “sludge” without a nagura. Perfect to keep my takohiki polished
