The "Kind of Blue" is a superbly crafted mouthpiece as are their tenor and clarinet mouthpieces that I play. Reeds seat flawlessly. It blows with just the right amount of resistance for my taste. The tone has a certain "ring" to its core that I was looking for. It can play with needed brightness without becoming strident and edgy; it can also be played in subtone without losing the core sound. It is quite flexible. This mouthpiece has the traditional "alto sound" of the '50s through the 70s. (Cannonball, Phil Woods, et al). It's great for all around jazz playing or lead alto playing in a big band. My 50+ year old Meyer is now my backup. This mouthpiece works quite well for me and I would highly recommend it.

A Dream Come True
Back in college I used to joke with my fellow alto player Joe about how cool it would be to have Cannonballs mouthpiece, complete with the brass ring. I was the lead alto player and loved him, Phil Woods, Stefano di Battista etc. I thought being like Cannonball and having that mouthpiece would just be the cats meow. Well folks...I've got it. Talk about the weirdest way the stars could possibly align. Just a few notes on my SBA alto and I knew it was a keeper. I ordered the 5. This thing sings. Thank you for making this piece happen. It means a lot.

WONDERFUL MOUTHPIECE!!! So good I had to get another one with a larger tip. It's even all the way up and down, great projection when needed, and soooo responsive at any dynamic! A WINNER ALL AROUND!!!
