Anti-Starling Triple Suet Cage Feeder

I have a couple starlings who are willing and able to hang upside down to get to the suet, but I think when I change over to plain suet they will stop. I used a cap from some Olly gummy vitamins on the bottom to lift the suet out of their reach, and it stops them under the cap. This feeder is very sturdy. I had some 70mph winds come through a few days ago and it was completely undamaged. The little songbirds are really active at it so far. This is my 4th feeder trying to get rid of starlings, and it's the best so far by a lot.

Keeps starlings from rapidly devouring suet, but allows them and the more welcome birds including pileated woodpeckers access from the bottom until I have to push the remaining suet down to reach the bottom. Also the access lid for replacing suet just lays in the recess cut for it. It could fly off in the wind or be lifted off by a marauding squirrel or other animal. I have secured it with long silicone bands, but wish it were designed to be more secure.

So the Starling proof suet feeder is not Starling proof. I had to cover the bottom of the feeder with hardware cloth as the starlings and blackbirds were hanging from the bottom and eating most of the suet. FYI, these birds can and do hang upside down, Also they can reach through the sides of the feeder and chip away at the suet until most of it is gone. Clearly the feeder needs to be wider to stop the birds from getting at the suet. On the plus side, the feeder is heavy duty and well made, but prepare to have to use hardware cloth on the bottom. Also be ready for the smaller song birds to be driven away by Starlings and Blackbirds. Although well made, for the price of the feeder I am disappointed in the results.
