good alternative to regular seed to deter menacing birds

I purchased the safflower seed cylinders as I have an influx of grackles and starlings in my yard. They will devour a regular seed cylinder in one day, which I can not afford. The safflower seeds satisfy the cardinals, woodpeckers, sparrows, chickadees and more that frequent my feeders. I can still enjoy birds, but avoid all the screeching and fighting that the grackles and starlings generate.

I tried other seed cylinders before the safflower one, but they attracted mostly grackles, starlings, and squirrels. The ones with fruit also attracted bees and other insects. The safflower cylinders fixed all that. No grackles, starlings, squirrels, or bugs! But lots of wrens, finches, and woodpeckers! The shells are a bit messy and there’s some sprouting, but you can’t be a bird feeder without any mess at all. I’ll be buying these for a long time.
