A Matched Pair Completely Changed My System
I replaced two older, mismatched subwoofers with a pair of SVS PB-3000 R|Evolutions, and I honestly did not expect the difference to be this dramatic.
I have a fairly serious Dolby Atmos setup with B&W speakers driven by a Denon AVR-X6800H, and after getting these properly positioned and dialed in with Audyssey, the improvement wasn't simply "more bass." The entire soundstage changed.
With two matched subs properly integrated, the bass no longer sounds like it is coming from a subwoofer. You can't point to the left side of the room and say, "there's the left sub," or hear the right one as a separate source. The bass simply exists within the soundstage. An explosion, musical bass line, spacecraft engine, or low-frequency effect seems to originate from wherever the sound itself is supposed to be coming from. The subs essentially disappear.
That's probably the biggest compliment I can give them. These are two enormous boxes sitting in my room producing ridiculous amounts of low-frequency energy, yet once calibrated, I don't actually hear the boxes. I hear the movie.
There is also a huge difference between merely having powerful bass and having controlled bass. These can shake the room when the soundtrack calls for it, but they aren't constantly announcing themselves. Bass has weight, depth and impact without becoming muddy or overwhelming everything else. Then something with serious low-frequency content hits and you suddenly realize just how much reserve they have.
Going from mismatched subs to a matched pair also made the bass throughout the listening area substantially more cohesive. There isn't the same sensation of one sub doing one thing while another is doing something slightly different. They behave like part of a single system.
They aren't inexpensive, and buying two certainly isn't a small commitment. But in my system, a properly calibrated pair of PB-3000 R|Evolutions produced one of the most immediately noticeable upgrades I've made. It wasn't just "more bass." It made the entire Atmos soundstage feel larger, more seamless and more convincing.
If you're considering one versus two and have the room and budget for a pair, two properly placed and calibrated subs are on a completely different level.

PB-3000
Purchased this as a replacement for my older subwoofer that finally gave out after 8 years in addition to the SoundPath wireless adapter. Extremely easy and quick setup with no issues or problems at all. This everything you’d ever need for a mid to large size room. The associated app is a bonus and so nice you can adjust the volume while listening to the music or TV.

A Great Upgrade!
After twenty years I decided to retire my PB12-Plus subwoofers. The PB-3000 R Evolution are a real upgrade and I run two of them in my 5400 cubic foot media room. The balanced inputs are an extra bonus!
