The Chairmaker's adze is forged from solid 4150 alloy steel. It has a hand crafted hickory or ash handle, stained and finished with a penetrating oil/varnish mix. This is the same head as my small bowl adze with flat center, only hung on a 12" hickory handle similar to my standard carving axe. The blade has an essentially flat section in

I like this adze very much. It is perfect for chair seat work. The "wings" add a lot of control removing material to the line. I think the handle could be a bit (1") longer.

I plan on using the adze for roughing out a rocking chair seat. As I have never used an adze before, I have only been practicing with some scrap pieces. It is much harder than I had imagined. I will continue to practice on scraps before attempting on my project seat. It's a great looking product and came ready to use.....very sharp. I will work hard to maintain its sharpness. I just wish I had purchased the leather hood that is used to protect the head.

This is a fantastic tool. I build stick chairs primarily and and using this tool to shape the seats is a game changer.
