First off, let me say I love this coffee maker! The coffee really does taste notably different from my old drip model. I ordered an extra carafe because, well, it's all glass, and in a kitchen that is all hard surfaces, glass will break if dropped, so I wanted to have a spare at the ready so as not to miss a single day of great coffee!

You do need to be careful with the glass carafe. I broke the one that came with my coffee maker. I was so happy when I was able to order a replacement. I was careless putting the top onto the carafe (the metal disk with a hole for the coffee to flow through into the carafe) and chipped the spout. Other than that the carafe is very nice - easy to clean - excellent coffee.

I accidentally broke my carafe and reordered a new one. The carafe arrived within a few days boxed and well packaged. My only complaint is that the carafe lid ( from the original coffee brewer) is very tight and difficult to remove or put on.
