I've been looking for a 1/4" shank surfacing bit with carbide cutters--finally found it! I have used other Spe cutters and have always been impressed. Again they did not let me down, this bit cuts like a champ, super smooth cut on my spoilboard! Have not tried it on any hard or soft wood yet but I'm sure it will cut it with ease. I like the ability to change out the carbide inserts when dull rather than toss the whole bit and buy a new one. 5 stars!
