This is a great grinder!

I have an older Vario without the weighing function and was a first skeptical that this would be handy, as I'm used to using a scale to weight my beans for every shot, or if I get lazy, I just use the timer. However, the great thing about this grinder is indeed the ability to fine tune every shot by weight and grind. No more scale on the counter, or just dosing by time alone. This machine really makes life easy, and gives totally consistent doses. If you're fussy about your shots (and who isn't) this grinder with the weight function means one less step and less clutter on the counter if you're using a scale to weigh your beens for every shot. It also makes it easy to keep the right dose when changing beans, i.e. say a medium roast to a full city roast, as darker beans weight more than lighter beans and grind differently. It's easy to dial it in, and then just put it in one of the memory functions. I found this grinder easy to set up and use for espresso grinds as well as coarser, Mr. Coffee type brewing.

Replacement for Rancilo -- 20+ years old

While I wasn't really looking for a new grinder, the concept of gram based output was very appealing, as I do drip, Aeropress, CleverCup, no espresso. The Vario works perfectly, no hung up grounds, and I eliminated my roasted bean storage jar, scoop, and for the CleverCup, coffee scales. Very satisfied!
