I'm an amateur astronomer, and red lights are used in that pursuit to preserve sensitivity to faint starlight. These clip lights are well suited to that job. I always have a few in the kit.

Great as a bed lamp.

This light is a bit big for clipping on a book to hold and read. I am very happy I got the mini version for my kids to serve that purpose. However this bigger light is great as a clip on headboard light. We don’t have night stands or traditional lamps, this is exactly what we needed.
