Northern Brewer Stainless Counterflow Wort Chiller

Works as described, but not really an essential tool

I'd been curious about this device for a while just because it looked cool so, when it went on sale I went ahead and got one. In brief, it's well constructed and cools the wort quickly, but it is much more work to get set up and then clean/put-away afterwards than just letting the wort cool naturally. So, if you're often in a hurry, go for it. It really does work as advertised. If, on the other hand, you have a half day of something else to do while your wort cools naturally, then you can save yourself some money and trouble by just letting nature take its course.

I Like This Chiller

This chiller is very high quality. The welds look great. I have a Clawhammer system and the element is exposed on the bottom. I was using my Jaded immersion chiller but I didn't like it resting on the element. Plate chillers tend to clog and are a pain in the butt to clean so I started looking at counterflow chillers. The Northern Brewer chiller looked like the best bang for the buck so I took the plunge. I've used it a couple of times. It doesn't chill as fast as the Jaded, probably about 15 minutes to bring it down to pitch temp but man this thing is easy. I just set the pump and let it flow through the chiller while I have a cold one. No more swirling the wort around the immersion chiller. I'm glad I made this purchase.

Nice wort chiller

Decent little wort chiller. Cools down 10 gallons pretty quickly and easy to clean.
