As many of these smaller jet type stoves, it's a little tricky starting a wood burner from the top. However, once started, it burns well and hot, boiling your water plenty fast. This is not a stove you can put on the ground any place it could start a fire. The bottom is essentially on the ground so it will start anything beneath it on fire unless nonflammable.. Picnic tables included. No, I didn't put it on a picnic table but practiced at home on a board so I'd know. That said, it does burn hot and will burn small sticks well. It boils water as quickly as anything comparable and is lighter than most. I like that it stacks well with a pot.
