The Real Deal

When I tasted my first Koeksister in South Africa, on more than one occasion, I thought my taste buds went to heaven. Having these available here in the states is a treat. These are authentic, fresh, and a sweet, sweet memory of my many trips to their homeland! Buy a bag or two…or three. 😊

The koeksisters have a great taste and excellent flavor, but they are not quite there yet. When refrigerated, ( not freezer) they seem to become dry on the inside and lose some of the soft, syrupy texture that is expected from a traditional koeksister. However, when left on the counter, they develop a texture that is much closer to an authentic koeksister, although they are no longer cold then. The flavor is very enjoyable, but finding the right balance between maintaining freshness and preserving the traditional texture would make them even better. As we all know, once the kettle is switched on, it's time to take the koeksister out of the freezer. By the time the coffee is ready, the koeksister should have reached the perfect temperature and texture to enjoy with your koffie.
