FM9 Mark II Turbo – Amp Modeler & Multi-FX

I could parrot the usual fantastic tone, fantastic effects, fantastic flexibility claims of other reviews and I feel those claims are accurate. I was blown away by how good some of the presets sounded and was even more happy about how easily I was able to get in and start editing things with the FM9-Edit application, getting the tone I wanted. I was also very happy with how the amp simulations respond to playing. I have had a couple of tube amps in the past (best was an old twin reverb that finally bit the bullet and couldn't be reasonably fixed.) I also love how I can get great sound without ear shattering volumes. I do want to say that I personally don't think the often mentioned difficulty of using Fractal units is fair. While it is true I really don't want to be building presets from scratch at a band practice or when playing live, I don't want to be doing that then anyway. What I can do, and quite easily is use the performance page to tweak my presets to fit the situation. If I want a little less reverb or a little longer delay, or slightly less gain on a drive block, all of those things are almost trivial as long as you have setup a well thought out performance page ahead of time. And it usually isn't rocket science to figure out ahead of time what you might want to tweak. The FM9-Edit application is well thought out, and in my opinion very easy to use given the wealth of things that you can adjust if you want to do so. And that is what the vast majority of users will be using when building their presets. I also REALLY like the flexibility of the foot switching in the FM9. With 9 different foot switches and VERY flexible ways of assigning functions to those switches, it is really pretty easy to set up the FM9 to work the way YOU want it to when playing. For example, I modified the default layouts so that my unit comes up in scene mode by default. I have access to 6 scenes, plus a foot switch to go to an effects layout, and another to go to a layout for going to presets. I also modified the presets layout so that once I have selected a preset, it goes immediately back to scene mode. This is all very easy to use live. And doing these modifications to the factory layouts was again a pretty simple thing to do using FM9-Edit. The amount of DSP power in the FM9 MkII Turbo is very generous, and it is almost crazy how many effects I can get on a preset. The large Scribble Strips on the FM9 are really appreciated. It is great having the foot switches clearly and very visibly labeled for playing live. The flexibility of the color coding of the footswitches is also very helpful. I also want to mention that despite how well boxed my FM9 was, it was delivered slightly damaged. Someone managed to put a hole through both boxes and hit the FM9 itself, probably with a fork lift. There was minor cosmetic damage and it was unclear if there was any internal damage to the FM9. I contacted FM9 sales support and Andrew at FM9 was great. He gave me two very acceptable and fair alternatives. I was impressed with their support. Andrew even got back to me on the July 4th Holiday. Now THAT is service. I debated long and hard about whether I wanted to spend this much money on a modeler/effects unit. I'm very happy I did.

OMG! I wish i got one when it came out. Out of the box, I got every tone i ever wanted. The sounds are so inspiring and i find myself discovering riffs from my fav bands. I want to mention the shipping was excellent and fast.
