I’ve used a number of expensive all stainless steel razors, bought and sold, and always kept the Rockwell 6S. When the gold version came out, I figured I would give it a try. The finish is a nice matte gold. I like this better than a shiny polished look. It’s a durable finish (there are YouTube videos showing this). The finish seems to make the razor a tiny bit more slick. Not enough to bother you on the knurled portion of the handle. While shaving, you might not even notice depending on which soap you’re using (comparing to the 6S in matte stainless). The gold coating doesn’t cover a tiny portion of the threads on the cap, nor in the threads down inside the handle. Nothing wrong with that. The coating on the rest of the handle and cap is nice and even. On the plates, it appears to be built up a little thicker near the center hole where the threaded post of the cap goes through. You’d have to look really close, but can see the tiny creases where it’s thicker. Probably hard to coat, or, it’s something about the underlying MIM manufactured part - if you get that picky, the stainless matte versions will have tiny differences between examples, if you’ve owned more than one. The published gaps are different between the gold version and the regular matte stainless versions, but are so close to be comparable. I haven’t personally measured them to see what they would be with the blades I use. Just like the 6S in matte stainless, I get great shaves with this one, and will keep it a long time. If I lost this one, and only had the one, I’d get another the next day. No question.
