3.75" Championship Series Chess Pieces - Ebonized

A little disappointed

The pieces came packed in a plastic bag wrapped in bubble wrap inside a paper bag. No individual protection means they will be dinged up from shipping handling. The whole set is 38oz instead of 43oz and it’s exactly the same model and weight as the House Of Staunton offering, just with a higher price which can be kind of compensated with the free cloth bags you can add, and simpler packaging. It is a good set, but packaging and visual matching of some equal pieces could be much better: Some ebonized pieces came chipped showing pale wood and some of the other pieces have unwanted size differences: one of my white bishops doesn’t match the set because it’s slim in comparison to the other ones, which are chunky and wide at the mitre, neck and body. The black king is chipped and is smaller than the white king (it is not 1.5” in base diameter as specified), one pawn is missing part of its torus and everything else is minor and not distracting normal variance. Overall, if you are lucky to get matching and intact pieces, the set will be fine. Weight between matching pieces is very consistent though.

Nice aside from minor defects

Solid 8/10 set My favorite part is how they sound when playing on a wood board - a hearty thumpy clack Top of black rook finish could be more smooth.
