Highland Pant

Great fit

They fit perfectly – they’re loose trousers, but not overly wide‑leg. I added pockets and they don’t look distracting at all (to be fair, I used black fabric, and black hides a lot). I’ve already bought a stretch fabric for my second pair. I won’t cut those on the bias because of the elastane content, so I’m curious to compare the two.

A little tighter than expected…

I made a toile and even when I chose the size according to my hip measurements (107 cms, so size L), I feel it a little tight in the bum. I just got the fabric for my second try, and I’m debating whether I size up and risk getting a puffy look or make a full seat adjustment to give me a little extra space. Or maybe tweak the back rise line a little bit. Will need to evaluate both options. Not that I’m quite full in that area, but my bum is round shaped and I sometimes burst the seams in the back rise seam… so that might solve the tight feeling. I recommend making a toile before cutting your nice fabric, just in case. Also, given the bias cut of the pants, a cutting guide specific for this garment should be included in the instructions. The generic that it has is not helpful when arranging the pattern to cut the fabric. A diagram showing this pattern in the cutting guide would be awesome. Be extra careful in this step, so you don’t mess up like I did. I think someone posted a suggestion over instragram. Maybe looking for the tag will help you find it. But it should be in the instruction booklet… All in all, I loved the shape of these pants, and once I tweak the fit I know I will be wearing them constantly.

Wonderful pants!

I never thought I would love bias pants, but these are amazing. I made them in 185g washed linen and they hang like a dream, look super good and are so comfortable that I am about to cut another pair out immediately. They're the perfect leg width too. Now all we need is a Daughter Judy pattern for louche, cool pants like these to be cut on the straight grain for the really difficult fabrics - please!
