Excellent compass: accurate, quick to stabilize, easy to use and very ruggedly built. I went with the tritium illumination option and that was most definitely the smart choice! No worries about having to "recharge" the illumination before hitting the field. One less thing to worry about! It was worth the extra cost: if you can swing the cost, go for it- you won't regret spending for the upgrade. The accuracy is a good bit better than spec. I tested the compass at night, using several known star azimuths. The results were impressive: I consistently got observed azimuth readings within about a degree of true values, while the factory spec is (I believe) about 2.5 degrees. Impressive indeed! Finally, the build quality is outstanding. Fit and finish are first rate and the compass has a solid, substantial feel to it when you hold in your hand. This is a solid addition to my field kit, something that I'm confident will give me many years of reliable, worry-free service. Here's the bottom line: if you're looking for a compass that you can depend on, your search just ended: buy this American-made instrument and start enjoying using what a compass should be. You won't be sorry!

Not exactly like the one I was issued in the Army however it's pretty close, very accurate, and works very well. I like how it comes with a MOLLE pouch.
