Bekele Yutute – Ethiopia

This bag of Bekele Yutute was an absolute peak experience, almost literally, given it comes from 1900–1950m in Sidama. Knowing it placed 4th in the 2024 Cup of Excellence, I expected something special and this brew really managed to bean-dazzle me. The moment I opened the bag, I could tell I was in for something unique, one of those true small‑batch, “sip it while you can because once it’s gone, it’s gone” kind of coffees. Its vibrant, fruit-forward, and full of the kind of lively character Ethiopia is famous for. It felt like I’d suddenly been promoted from casual coffee drinker to someone playing in the Ethiopian Premier League of flavour. For my first ever Ethiopian coffee, this was a truly standout introduction. Bekele Yutute’s care, from hand-sorting to raised‑bed drying, comes through in every cup. It’s the kind of coffee that reminds you just how magical a single origin can be when everything aligns. Thanks to Rise & Grind for getting hold of a lot like this. I can’t wait to see what they brew up next.
