Description
Hofner-style energy, kit-style price tag. The HF Style DIY Bass Guitar Kit is the violin-shaped bass everyone secretly wants — basswood body, maple top, two mini humbuckers, and a vibe straight out of a 1962 black-and-white concert film.

Almost perfect
At first glance everything about this kit is perfect. Very tight neck pocket, beautiful veneer, and great fretwork.
However there was glue squeeze out on the veneer that needed to be sanded off, but because the top was so thin you sand through it (sanded by hand with 400grit paper). Gap where the veneers meet in the center of the body is also unfortunate. Tailpiece holes weren’t centered so I’ll have to fill and redrill those to get the strings in the right spot as well (you can tell in the pic the tailpiece is about 1/8in off to the right).
All that said, even before fixing the tailpiece or doing any fret dressing I have a very playable and great sounding instrument. With some final tinkering this thing is going to play beautifully, and it looks alright even with the cheap veneer. This was my 4th kit from Vibeworks and I’ll be coming back for more!

Looks Like a Solid Starting Point
The bass looks very nice. Does not appear to require any sanding and the wood grain looks terrific. I realize how it turns out in the end is gonna depend a lot more on ME than on the kit itself! But it seems a great starting point for a potentially cool learning process. Thanks, Vibeworks, for the affordable opportunity.
