Phenomenal
I only fish Guru S HD reels these days. It's just the perfect reel in my opinion. The sizes are great (I own 5s and 7s), capacity is more than enough and the drag is super strong and smooth. Only thing I don't like on them is the handle, but that got upgraded on the new X. Other than that - perfect reel.

Great reel at a great price!
I needed a reel to fish in the surf with a reliable drag system, but also with a full cage to keep my shooting line from escaping to places where it shouldn’t be. The Lamson Guru S HD was just the ticket for what I need to fish for surf perch. It’s well built and looks like it’ll take some abuse, which it is going to get. I’m somewhat addicted to Lamson full frame HD reels. The Guru S does not disappoint. The sealed drag system is great and I expect to use this for a long time.

Lamson for the win
I really like the build quality and value you get with the Guru platform. I have the 7HD Blackout, 7 OG and 9 OG. Also the Remix 7 Daybreak. I use the Guru 9 on an 11’ rod and it balances quite nice, and I don’t have to worry about my mono rig coiling because of the large arbor. The Guru 7 HD I’m using for a mono rig for my 3wt 10’ and it is one of my favorite rods to fish. I like the little extra weight the HD has to balance the rod. And the full cage keeps my Euro or mono rigs where it should be.
Only two cons for me personally, is I wish they had a reel knob like the new style of Guru. I wish Lamson sold a weight system for any of the reels. It would be easy to have a weight with a set screw to attach to the reel spindle. Overall, it is a great reel!
