Beautiful, Subtle, Satisfying Houjicha

Really beautiful and unique houjicha with lovely, subtle flavor notes, and a satisfying body, brings calm alertness. Interestingly made from oolong, giving it delicious oolong floral notes with a classic roasty flavor. Awesome tea, Ikkyu is the greatest!

Amazing houjicha

Out of all the houjicha teas I’ve tried, not only just from Ikkyu, but, other tea companies as well. this one has been by far the most complex in aroma and flavor. Initially after opening the bag you get a really sweet, good roasty aroma of oolong and jasmine. There’s quite a bit of play with the water temperature, allowing for varying aromas, sweetness, astringency, and boldness. I personally prefer brewing this houjicha with slightly cooler water temp (85C - 90C) to get a good balance of robustness. Along with a good balance of floral sweetness. (Using soft water, freshly boiled in a tetsubin also contributes substantially, as well as the use of a tokoname kyusu, to the taste of Japanese tea)

Delicious any time of day

The citrus notes in this really brighten this houjicha and make it very unique. As the description suggested, if you brew this with hotter water, you get all the woody, smoky notes you’d expect from a houjicha. A little cooler water brings out the fruity, citrus notes in it. I recommend experimenting and seeing which you like best! It’s a very versatile tea and holds up to multiple steepings.
