Cherry Parfeit Survived Extreme Heat

I ordered the rose bush before the first of two extreme heat waves rolled through northern Virginia recently. It took time for Heirloom to prepare the rose bush for its long journey from Oregon to Virginia. They did a wonderful job of protecting the plant and making sure that the root ball was sufficiently moist for the long journey. Upon receipt of the plant, I called Heirloom to get some advice about how to make the transplant process work, given the eminent heat wave, but unfortunately spoke to someone who gave me a convoluted piece of advice that didn’t take into account the intensity of the heat outside, even at night. So I did what I thought was the best Plan B I could come up with, and kept the little transplant rose bush inside under a grow light during the day until the first wave of extreme heat passed. Then I followed the transplanting instructions on the box, and in the written materials provided by Heirloom. Those instructions were very helpful, particularly on how to prepare the soil for the little plant. When the second heat weave hit, I put a small triangular cage over the rose bush and attached a shade cloth over it, without letting the material touch the plant. I kept the shade cloth moist with water throughout the day. Anyways, the little rose bush survived, and is sprouting new leaves every day.

Beautiful Blooms

I’m in zone 8A and this rose is pushing out blooms left and right. I have her potted and try and pull in during the afternoon sun but not always able to do her leaves are a little brown. She brings such a smile to my face as she changes colors. She is delicate and beautiful.

My first heirloom edition

The rose spring life right after we put it in the ground. It’s been less than a month and produced its first bloom. This will be a beautiful addition to our garden.
