Ptarmigan 850 Ultra Down Jacket

An Outstanding Jacket!

I have been a huge fan of down jackets for a long time, I must say that the Ptarmigan 850 jacket is by far my favorite. This jacket compresses down very small and fits easily into a day pack for scouting. I recently took it up on trip scouting new ground in a wilderness area at about 12000 feet, this jacket kept me very warm in the early mornings and late evenings. I can hardly wait to use it in truly cold weather.

I am relatively new to the Skre product line, having only used them for one hunting season so far. Up until now I was a diehard user if another big name brand, but Skre has changed that. The Ptarmigan jacket is very well built, extremely light weight, and has a streamlined fit that still allows for a base and mid-layer to be worn comfortably. I appreciate the way the down is isolated into squares in the outer shell, this keeps it from migrating/ bunching up over time. The hood really surprised me, in that it has a streamlined fit, a nice brim, and the ability to liok left and right without the hood blocking your view. I will be testing this jackect and additional Skree pieces from late August through September on our annual moose hunts here in Alaska. So far, I am very impressed…the bigger companies should take notice, there is a new high quality competitor on the field!

Great first impression

I have not used the gear yet but my first impression is that it is great quality and design. I am hopeful that that they keep me warm as well as they look and feel. I will add an update after use.
