Japanese Tanto Knife

The blade is very sharp, and the steel is of noteworthy quality. I do not expect this knife to stand the test of time as well as a $500 tanto, but for the price, I am very pleased with this. It took over 3 months to arrive in Canada, which is much longer than anticipated but not unacceptable. I am interested to see how well the blade maintains its cutting edge over the years. I would have given it 4 stars, but the wood used in the sheath specifically feels very cheap. Visible wear has already appeared on the wood of the hilt within a week of having received the item. It has not been stress tested or handled irresponsibly. The sheath feels particularly fragile, whereas the hilt has the support of the blade. I expect the sheath to shatter upon impact if the knife is ever dropped. I would consider this knife as a collector's item, as it is a great entry-level tanto for knife collectors and enthusiasts, but I cannot recommend it for self-defense.
