Alternative to dense direct seeding for baby-teenage salad greens

The paper pot transplanter works well in a range of soil types on our farm both in deep compost beds and older beds with a higher clay content. I was skeptical at first of decreasing seeding density by running 6-7, 2" paper pot rows on a 30" bed of teenage greens instead of 2 passes of a 6 row seeder but we've seen improved yield, reliability, and better quality leaves this way with less plant competition and lower yellow leaves, while using less seed. Excited to keep experimenting with this system, and to see if it reduces bolting pressure in extreme heat by reducing field heat time and competition compared to direct seeded 'carpet' methods. At our scale the production cost of chains still makes sense for these gains. Amazing for salad greens, especially when multi-sowing cells with clumps of seed paired with the Neversink drop seeder.

Nice savings for purchasing everything you need to get started. I really appreciated the QR code link to videos for assembly vs a printed build sheet. Solid construction and everything is well designed. Its also nice that it came with various paper pot chains to try out options as I learn what works best for our farm. I'm impressed so far.
