From Gryphon to Mojo 2
I picked up the Chord Mojo 2 (new 4.4mm output revision) from Bloom Audio on backorder and received it in about two weeks—faster than expected. Before purchasing, I seriously debated whether to upgrade within the iFi portable lineup or sidegrade to the Mojo 2 from the iFi Gryphon. For context, I place a lot of value on timing, coherence, and how naturally the sound comes together during longer listening sessions. The Gryphon already checked many boxes for me. It has a slightly richer, more “hi-fi” character with great versatility, and I genuinely enjoyed it. The Mojo 2 moves in a different direction—it feels more refined in terms of control and coherence. The sound is tighter, cleaner, and more unified without sounding sterile. Transients feel more precise, and the overall presentation is less fatiguing over time. What really surprised me was the synergy with my Focal Utopia headphones. I’ve owned the Utopia for about five years, and previously I struggled with its presentation—it wasn’t my usual go-to with my SPL Phonitor XE or the Gryphon. But with the Mojo 2, it finally clicked. It’s the first time I’ve truly loved the Utopia, especially in a relaxed, lounge-style setting. In the end, I think both the Gryphon and Mojo 2 are strong enough to be long-term portable solutions, depending on preference. I plan to keep both and enjoy them regularly. If I had to choose just one, I’d keep the Mojo 2. Overall, this wasn’t just a sidegrade—it ended up being a meaningful refinement and addition to my system.

Chord Mojo 2 (paired with iPhone 16 Pro, IE900 Sennheiser, & Apple Music Lossless
This is my current stack — iPhone 16 Pro → Mojo 2 → IE 900 with Apple Music Lossless. After using different DACs, the Mojo 2 help produces sound with great clarity, creating an immersive experience across different genres and time periods. Note: does not include USB-C to USB-C cable.

Tiny Learning Curve, but Great Sound!
I bought the Mojo 2 as a DAC/amp combo to replace my desktop setup, since I needed something with low output impedance and minimal background noise. Initially I trialed the Questyle Sigma, but I found that it didn't work too well with my power and source and maintained an asymmetrical high pitched whine during stationary operation. I returned that unit and decided to go for this classic. With the same power and source there was no whining to speak of. The super low output impedance also helped to debloat the midbass and not rolloff the upper treble for a lot of my hybrid IEMs. For example, the start of Faith In Strangers by Andy Stott has little pulses of noise around 12-14kHz that were made audible with the Mojo 2. Overall, I'd say that the Mojo 2 alone has taken the place of my desktop and mobile setup!
