Mentha x piperata. Hot, rich mint aroma issues from the crushed or dried leaves of this spreading perennial plant. Consider growing Peppermint seeds in containers, as it will become hard to control over the year...

Peppermint
Very happy with the peppermint. We replaced a backyard area with peppermint and it has grown very well and have taking cuttings to root more. It is very healthy and am pleased with the successful planting.

A more difficult seed
I'm a beginner with mint, and have had quite a learning experience growing this one. Mint seeds take a while to germinate and the plants start out tiny. They take a while to really get going. While the seeds themselves do deliver as advertised, I think West Coast Seeds should revise their instructions: 1) Unlike most other seeds, mint needs light to germinate, thus you should barely scratch them into the soil surface. 2) I don't recommend those peat pellets. I found it was necessary to keep them wet for quite a while, and I had multiple pellets eventually starting to grow mould or fungus or similar. 3) I found a better germination method was to scratch 30-40 seeds into the soil in a shallow pot or container. Generously garnish the soil surface with vermiculite. Keep them damp. As plants start to get bigger, re-pot individual plants into 3 or 4 inch pots.

It has been a challenging summer but these seeds have given me what I was looking for. I have experimented with only planting a few seeds each to get a feel of how they grow etc and so far it has been successful
