Lettuce Leaf Basil

Beautiful and delicious!

Really great basil! Germination was speedy and all my plants are strong & handling the weather great. Love the smell & taste and LOVE the size of the leaves! I will be growing more of this basil in the future :)

Lettuce Leaf Basil

Several years ago, when I ordered this (every year), the plants had leaves that were actually lettuce leaf size. Good to put a whole leaf in a burger or a sandwich, etc. instead of lettuce. For the past several years, even tho it is supposedly the same plant/seeds, the leaves just grow to standard basil size. However, the plants are prolific and I like the softer texture of the leaves.

No Giant Leaf Yet

I planted the Lettuce Leaf Basil in a comparison trial against a standard Sweet Genovese Basil. The germination was excellent and the flavour comparable; however, so far, the Sweet Genovese has surpassed the Lettuce Leaf Basil in both growth and leaf size, with the leaves more closely resembling a Thai Basil, than large "lettuce leaves". I was hoping for a bit of "Wow" factor with the Lettuce Leaf Basil...perhaps it will shine later in the season?
