The smell is different, but doesn’t seem to bother the bees. In 53 years of beekeeping I have used a lot of varied starters. The best I have ever used is Kwik Start fire starters. I thought you used to carry them. Mann Lake used to. Now I can’t find them anywhere. Which is why I tried the alfalfa pellets.

Added some to my smoker along with burlap and a handful of wood chips they worked well.

I have a little trouble lighting them, but they seem to burn longer than other fuels I have used.
