A Kids About Addiction
As a professional working in addiction, I had hoped to find an option for my patients to share with their kids, but I won't being suggesting this book. There are a few stigmatizing ideas presented that we are moving away from as an industry, like the word "addict" versus "a person with addiction". Improvement could be made by making it a first person centered perspective, "I am a person with addiction" for example, or "For me, the experience of being a person with an addiction is like....." And "For me, the experience of recovering from an addiction is...." As written there is too much "they" which makes it seem like those with addiction are foreign, should be talked about without their involvement, etc. That said, there is a lack of books introducing addiction to kids, this is better than nothing and you should make your own decisions about what works best to get your family talking about addiction openly and without shame.

Helpful
Really tough subject made accessible through this book. Grateful it exists.

Great book!
This book is for those who want to learn about addiction. It is written in a way that anyone can understand what an addiction is. The book can be helpful for young children as well as adults. My life would have been very different if I had access to a book like this when I was a child.
