Ethan brings so much heart and integrity to a difficult situation for kids and grownups alike. And his life is a shining example of how even making a terrible mistake can lead to growth and possibility when someone takes responsibility for their actions, and does all they can to make amends. Excellent way to to discuss a tough subject

The author did an amazing job of breaking down the topic of incarceration to make it understandable to children. It also allowed space to have deeper conversations (systematic racism, oppression, impact on family) with kids who are a little older or ready to get more in depth. I will use this with my own child as well as students.
