Price Tag Issues and Unexpected Tax-Free Fees

We visited one of their shops in Kyoto, and the experience was disappointing from the start. The item we wanted had a lower price on the display tag than at the till. After speaking with the manager, they refused to honor the displayed price and instead offered us some merchandise as compensation. As tourists, we also asked for tax-free shopping. Unlike every other store we visited in Japan, where the tax discount was applied immediately, they told us the refund had to be processed through a third-party company. In reality, the refund process took three weeks and required us to submit our card details through an external website. The refund was also less than the expected 10%, and on top of that, additional handling fees were charged by the third-party company. Overall, the pricing and tax-free process lacked transparency, and we ultimately felt that we paid for the “compensation” merchandise ourselves.
