These start out weird and become wonderful.
This is one of my favorite trees, and certainly produce five-star fruits, but they don't come without challenges. The first one I planted, a few years ago, grew up into a gorgeous tree, but started rough. It looked good coming out of the box, looked fine after planting, but the top of the tree just didn't wake up. I cut the tree back to about 6 inches of scion, where there were baby red leaves coming out of the stem. It seemed like a big setback, but I grew a gorgeous, open-center tree from that little bit of scion, and the tree fruited beautifully. A few seasons later, I accidentally allowed peach tree borers to kill the tree. I ordered another tree and I will manage the borers aggressively. Like the last time, this new bare-root tree looked amazing coming out of the box. It had perfect scaffold branches and seemed primed to do well. And yet again, the top didn't wake up. I have gorgeous red leaves coming out about 10 inches up the trunk, and I've pruned back to that point, again. It's crazy that this keeps happening, but I'll grow a gorgeous tree anyway, and I look forward to the delectable fruit!

Quality tree
I topped it at 3ft to to start the vase shape I'm looking for with a lower canopy but even as is, it was very well shaped.
Can't wait for the fruit but it will be a couple of years.
