Made a Top!
I had my eye on this beautiful pattern for a while. I couldn't remember why I hadn't bought it, got it on impulse one night, and then realized the problem for me. The original yarn is no longer available and I hate substitutions!!! Here are my alterations. The most obvious alteration is that I just made a top. I'm sure I'll make the full dress soon, since this worked out well. I used Bella Cotton Feza (alas, also no longer available. I picked mine up at Tuesday Morning quite some time ago...) and a size B/1 2.25 mm hook. (Has anyone tried this with size 10 crochet thread? It's not as soft, but is so readily available...) The pattern starts from the bottom of the bodice. I wanted my top to be longer, so I did a total of 15 rows before starting the bib. I had 24 clusters, but this was a bit tight. I could have easily added two clusters. I figured it out too late and just adjusted later, see below. For the bib: I had 21 free stitches on each side, so started on stitch 22, and made 11 clusters. (She has 9 clusters.) Two rows, as written. The straps took a bit of trial and error. She has two clusters, I did three in each row for 11 rows. Start on the edge of the bib, as written. I used my doll **a lot** to decide where to sew the straps on. I recommend you do the same! Since my bodice was so tight, I just sc'd up and down the sides on each side to finish the edge and get a little more room. I prefer snaps, so used those. The silver did show through, I'm afraid. I just took some thread and twisted it in and out to hide it. The bottom row would have been fine left plain, but I thought I'd add a little ruffle, modeled after the skirt. This is the cluster stitch she uses on the skirt, one sc skipped between each cluster. Let's see if I can attach some pics to help out! Anyone have any other ideas for yarns that work well with this pattern?
