Organic Cotton Mattress Protector

Reliable product - could use a few tweaks

I purchased a California King Organic Cotton Mattress Protector in 2018 and replaced it in 2023 when some spots were starting to wear thin due to the frequent washings (as recommended by Soaring Heart, we wash the mattress protector each week when we wash the sheets and flip our mattresses). This is a very well-made product. The only issue that we had with it is that the two layers of cotton rub together in the washer/dryer and create little pills that can be quite uncomfortable when one winds up pressed in the middle of your back. This problem was easily solved with our first mattress protector by cutting a small slit in one layer in a corner of the mattress cover and sewing it like a buttonhole (to keep it from wearing or tearing open); this provided an 'escape valve' for the little pills to come out in the dryer and we never noticed them anymore after a few wash/dry cycles to clear out the buildup. When we purchased our new mattress protector, I added the same buttonhole first thing to one corner, but unfortunately the newer version now came from Soaring Heart with a run of stitches about 12" inside the border of the mattress protector - effectively creating another sealed-off pocket for the little pills to collect. I wound up removing some stiches from one corner of this interior border, but the little pills just can't escape as effectively so we notice them more often with our new mattress protector. I would recommend that Soaring Heart consider removing this interior border of stitches when they produce this product, and possibly even go one step further to add the buttonhole in the corner to prevent the buildup of pilling. This is a thick, well-made cover. It’s our second one, first one still in tip top shape after a decade of use.

Fits nice. I like how it opens up so I can easily put the mattress in. Very soft. I love it
