This is the second stone I've bought from this company, and I love it! Gives my knives a ridiculously sharp edge that lasts, easy maintenence, and lasts way longer than a traditional stone. Worth every penny.

I had been struggling in getting good results with my hand tool sharpening on old and new tools utilizing all the low end and high end water and diamond plates I purchased with lots of $$$$. I am OCD and wanted the chisel that paired wood like butter, super thin whole plane blade width shavings, and then CONSISTENCY every time. Not a lot to ask, right? Apparently it is, but there is an answer to such an endeavor. Shapton water stones! Every Shapton stone I have is great, but I will unfortunately tell you that you need the Shapton waterstone lapping diamond plate ($$), it is the crux to the whole system and really the only one I would recommend (Multiple diamond plates did not pass the feeler gauge testing). If you use this system and have OCD like me, you truly will up your sharpening to about as good as it gets! Just buy it now and cry rather than spend even more money seeking the right system and then crying about not going with Shapton in the first place! Seriously, best I have seen. But, do you need this system to get blades that cut, no. I could use the other plates to sharpen the blades to hand plane boards, chisel mortises, etc. Just not as easy then versus now with sharp blades and the finish the blade leaves is just like Rob states. Amazing how that made such a huge difference!
