Review from a beginner - Great quality for the price

I am an adult beginner with tiny hands. The 4/4 beginner I was renting locally was uncomfortable to play, the strings were hard to press and I could not get a good sound from the lower strings. I was a little worried about ordering online, but this place has the longest guarantee. The 7/8 came in last week. Looked beautiful - although I do love a dark brown wood, it came in more of medium tone. It does not look orange or too red. Feels well constructed and light. The first thing I noticed was that the strings were much easier to press down. I can hit the correct notes more often since I don't have to force my fingers unnaturally wide, the string crossings are smoother since my fingers can stay curved better and off a neighbor string. The strings are a much higher quality than the rental so the notes sing when pressed correctly. It sounds just as loud as the full size (to my untrained ear). The rosin did need scuffing up before it would apply to the bow but works well. The bow is nice and light, no strings came loose when rosining or playing. I can play for longer before becoming tired. My skills may not be ready for a Master, but I didn't want to have to keep upgrading and it will be something I can grow into skill wise. I opted to upgrade to geared pegs and I am very happy with how easy it is to tune the strings. The case needed airing out as it had a very strong odor, but it is fine now. So far, I am very happy with my new cello.
