Great for beginners!
I really enjoyed making this dress. The pattern was simple to cut out and put together. Lots of straight sewing is involved, so I think this would be a great item to have a beginner do. I used an Indian Muslin (cheesecloth) for the fabric which is a crinkled fabric. I wanted to test the pattern first before I used my good handkerchief linen. Needless to say I am so pleased with the results. I tried it on my 20 inch Australian Girl doll and it fits her well. The length comes to about mid-calf on her. There are two options for cutting the shoulder straps. I cut mine on the straight grain, and it still sewed up well, and didn't need the extra stretch when tying the straps. I purchased this pattern for the ancient vibe, but it would work up well in modern fabrics too. I would recommend this for a quick and easy sew for when your doll is needing a new dress in a hurry or for using as a teaching tool for a beginner seamstress just learning how to sew straight seams and hems, as neither are too long or difficult.
