Aquascaphe MK2 - Blue

Absolute jem!

This will be a long one. Spoiler - its fantastic, you wont regret it! I have been collecting watches for about 10 years now. At some point I accumulated over 50 watches of which I currently regularly wear 2. Lets say I have been experimenting to see what I actually like and I have been a slow learner. Now I am downsizing aggressively. Dive watches have become very important to me because of the timing bezel - I use this a lot. I personally divide the diver category into 2 types: actual divers and desk divers. The first is non-apologetic tool that takes a beating. I have long settled that category with a citizen aqualand jp2000 - if you know - you know. The second category for me must bring the functional perks of a diver but in more refined form. I have struggled here a lot. See, I like mid century watch sizes – 34-35 for dressier bits, 36-38 for sportier bits. There isnt really too much choice, especially if you couple that with a specific taste. I took a look at the new Oris diver date at a local store – almost non existent lume and too loose of a bezel – might have been a dud but that was available at the time. I gave the Tudor BB54 a long thought – I don’t really like gilt, and I do need a date – I wasnt going to pay that price for something that didn’t cover my needs/wants close to 100%. So I looked at Baltic. I had looked at Baltic a lot in the past but never bought one because of the lack of a date complication (more on that later). In the end, choice being what it was at the time (cant have everything) I went with the new 37mm Aquascaphe for my desk diver over more renowned options. I absolutely love the design and size. I also love the fact that it has a Miyota 9000 series movement. These are reliable and affordable to maintain – not worse than the equivalent ETA. They respond well to regulation too. I couldn’t care less about whining rotor complaints by some oversensitive people. The movement is top for the price tier. The watch itself is quite well made and an absolute pleasure to wear and look at. I love it! Now, about that date. Baltic recently announced a date option for the Aquaschaphe! I preordered that and cant wait to get it – makes a wonderful watch all that more useful! And a couple of things – Baltic, if you are listening – make a 37mm black glossy dial (like the type on the blue and green one) with a date! Also make a separately purchasable quick/tool-less adjustable clasp that would fit the existing beads of rice and flat link bracelets purchasable separately for those of us that do already have the bracelets, and make it standard in future releases.
